"Palm Beach House"
The program for the remodeling of this Palm Beach, Florida house required transforming an existing 4500-square-foot residence into a contemporary villa, a third again as large with gardens, a pool and pool house.
A formal axis through the remodeled structure links the public entry court to the private rear garden, terminating at the new pool house. The solid, symmetrical entry facade screens the interior from public view. In contrast, the open asymmetrical garden facade reinforces the relationship between the inside of the house and the outside private garden rooms.
The interior was reorganized and enlarged to create a loft-like public zone flanked by a series of secondary spaces. A long, covered porch serves as a transitional space between the interior of the house and the rear sunken garden and pool.
